What is Drone Soccer?

Drone soccer is a fast-paced, high-energy sport where players pilot small drones inside protective cages, aiming to score goals by flying through vertical goal rings. It’s a thrilling fusion of traditional soccer, drone piloting, teamwork, and strategy.

Originating in South Korea in 2016, drone soccer was officially recognised as an air sport by the World Air Sports Federation in 2019. The first World Drone Soccer Championships will be held in Shanghai, China, in November 2025.
SA Drone Soccer proudly brings this global phenomenon to South Africa to inspire youth through STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) education and competitive sport.

The Move from STEM to STEAM

To create a holistic learning experience, SA Drone Soccer integrates the arts into STEM education, making it STEAM. This approach ensures learners develop creativity alongside technical skills, increasing employability and entrepreneurial opportunities in a rapidly evolving tech landscape.
